Unit 3 List 2 Cell Cycle CB Flashcards
Anaphase
The stage of the cell cycle when duplicated chromosomes separate then move towards opposite poles of the cell.
Cancer
Abnormal cells divide without control and can invade nearby tissues.
Cancer Checkpoints
Help keep immune responses from being too strong.
Cell Cycle
A series of events that that take place in a cell as it grows and divides.
Cell Differentiation
The process of cells becoming more specialized.
Centrioles
Located in the cytoplasm of animal cells near the nuclear envelope.
Centromere
Region where the cells spindle fibers attach.
Chromatid
One of the 2 identical chromosomes that has been replaced in preparation for cell division.
Chromatin
a mix of DNA and protein that make chromosomes found in the cells of humans and other higher organisms.
Chromosomes
A structure found inside the nucleus.
Cytokinesis
Physical process of dividing cells.
Interphase
When the cells copy their DNA to get ready for mitosis.
Metaphase
When all chromosome pairs are fully condescended and attached to the mitotic spindle then aligned at the center.
Mitosis
When a single parent cell divides to make 2 identical daughter cells
Nucleolus
An area inside the nucleus thats made up of RNA and protein and is where ribosomes are made.
Prophase
The chromosomes condense and the centrosomes move to opposite sides of the nucleus.
Stem Cells
Cells with a potential to develop into different types of cells in the body.
Telophase
separates the duplicated genetic material carried in the nucleus of a parent cell that make 2 daughter cells.
