Unit 3 List 2 Cell Cycle Flashcards
Anaphase
a stage of mitosis or meiosis in which the chromosomes move from the center toward the opposite ends of a dividing cell.
Cancer
A term for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and can invade nearby tissues.
Cancer Checkpoints
help keep immune responses from being too strong and sometimes can keep T cells from killing cancer cells.
Cell Cycle
The process a cell goes through each time it divides.
Cell Differentiation
the process of cells becoming more specialized.
Centrioles
paired barrel-shaped organelles located in the cytoplasm of animal cells near the nuclear envelope.
Centromere
The region of the chromosome to which the spindle fiber is attached during cell division
Chromatid
one of the two identical halves of a chromosome that has been replicated in preparation for cell division.
Chromatin
a mixture of DNA and proteins that form the chromosomes found in the cells of humans and other higher organisms.
Chromosomes
A structure found inside the nucleus of a cell.
Cytokinesis
the process by which one cell physically divides into two cells
Interphase
the phase of the cell cycle in which a typical cell spends most of its life
Metaphase
a stage during the process of cell division (mitosis or meiosis).
Mitosis
a process of cell duplication, in which one cell divides into two genetically identical daughter cells.
Nucleolus
An area inside the nucleus of a cell that is made up of RNA and proteins and is where ribosomes are made
