Common speed
Speed used by most drivers who drive on an expressway
Velocitation
Condition in which a driver unconsciously drives too fast after leaving an expressway

Allows the driver to search for a gap while picking up speed to match traffic flow

Type of expressway where vehicles can enter or leave only at an interchange
Deceleration lane
An added lane in which to slow your vehicle without slowing vehicles to the rear of the expressway

Condition in which a driver lulled into an attentive, drowsy state
Exit ramp
Leads off of the expressway and allows the driver to look for a speed change and slow the vehicle
Entrance ramp
Allows the driver to evaluate path of travel, control zones, and determine the best entry speed
Merging area
Allows the driver to evaluate time and space prior to moving into traffic flow
Wolf packs
Groups of vehicles bunched together on an expressway
