Unit 17 Flashcards
Forces engine oil through the oil filter
Oil pump
What does the transmission do?
Delivers engine power to drive the wheels
Drive shaft
Carries power from the transmission to the differential in the rear-wheel drive vehicles
Differential
Allows one rear wheel to turn faster that the other
Alternator
Generates electric currents that recharge the battery
Radiator
Holds and cools the engine coolant
Carburetor
Mixes air with fuel and sends it to the engine
Master cylinder
Contains break fluid that is forced to the wheel cylinder to slow or stop the wheel
Thermostat
Regulates the temperature of the engine coolant
Fuel-injection system
Replaces the carburetor in most new cars
Power plant
A vehicle’s engine or motor that transmits power to a drive system
Maintains the vehicle’s movement
Transaxle
Serves in place of a transmission and differential in front-wheel vehicles
Water pump
Draws coolant fro the radiator and forces it through the engines cooling passages
Catalytic converter
Converts harmful gases into less harmful gases and water
Muffler
Reduces the noise from combustion sounds in the engine
