Personality
way in which an individual thinks, acts, and feels throughout life

the desire to get immediate gratification of needs with no regard for the consequences

psychosexual stages
at each stage during childhood development, a different area of the body produces pleasurable feelings. (5 stages) (according to Freud)
first stage (first 18 months)
oral stage. This includes weaning (taking the breast from the mother away.) If a child is neglected from this then they are more likely to have an oral fixation later in life. (chain smoking, drinking to much, overeating)
2nd stage (18-36 months)
Anal stage. Often leads to adults who are stingy, stubborn, and too neat. (Otherwise known as anal retentive personality)
3rd stage (3-6 years)
this is the “genital stage” or the phallic stage.
Oedipus complex
meaning boys become sexually attracted to their mothers during this stage.
Electra complex
Girls become sexually attracted to their dad during this stage
4th stage (6 years to puberty)
Latency stage. This is when the sexual feelings are hidden and girls and boys do not develop sexually
