Organizational Structure
What is the DTS?
Defense Transportation System - not a physical thing, includes any resources used for transportation of military/civilian goods within DoD network
What is the USTRANSCOM?
United States Transportation Command - Combatant command that provides “full-spectrum global mobility solutions and enabling capabilities for supported customer requirements in peace and war.”
What is the AMC?
Air Mobility Command - “Right effects, right place, right time.”
What is the MSC?
Military Sealift Command - Navy equivalent to AMC
What is the SDDC?
Surface Deployment and Distribution Command - Army equivalent to AMC
What is any cargo, passengers, mail, etc., referred to in the AMC?
“Traffic”
What three services does Air Transportation provide?
1) Quality air transportation for customers within the MAJCOM and DoD, 2) support DoD and AF capability to move traffic worldwide, and 3) unilateral aircrew training
What is an APOE?
Aerial Port of Embarkation
Where traffic originates (where traffic starts) and enters into the DTS
What is an APOD?
Aerial Port of Debarkation
Where traffic terminates (where traffic ends) and leaves the DTS
Who designates an airfield as an Aerial Port?
USTRANSCOM
What is an APS?
Aerial Port Squadron - very high volume traffic port strategically placed to support movement of all traffic
How many APSs are there in the CONUS?
Eight (8)
What is an AMS?
Air Mobility Squadron - high volume traffic port for in-transit/en-route hub for traffic movement, typically OCONUS
What is a CRG?
Contingency Response Group - Unit solely for deploying personnel within 12 hours to either open air bases or augment existing ones
What is an LRS?
Logistics Readiness Squadron - Help deployed personnel move belongings and equipment to deployed location, provide training, and support movement in surrounding vicinity
