Unit 2 : Population Flashcards
19.1, 19.2, 21,2, 21,3
Logistic growth
Growing until it levels off due to limitation of resources, carrying capacity, S-shape
Predator-prey cycle
Predator follows the prey population
Exponential growth
Growing with no unlimited resources, J-shaped
Carrying capacity
Max population limit that the environment can handle
Overshoot
Population is over than the carrying capacity
Emigration
Organisms moving out of the area
Immigration
Organisms moving into the area
Birth rate
of offsprings per
K-selected
A small amount of offspring taken care of well. They live for a long period of time and all die around the end of lifespan. Ex humans (larger animals)
r-selected
A large amount of offsprings, not taken care of well and many die around their early lifespan. Rely on the birth rate being higher than the death rate. Ex rates
Types of survival rates (3)
l - live for a long time, and die around the end of life / humans
ll - constant death rate through their lifespan / birds
lll - most die at beginning, those that survive live for a long period / trees
