What does antenatal screening do
identifies teh risk of a disorder so that further tests and diagnosis can be offered
what are examples of some techniques?
blood and urine tests, ultrasound scanning and diagnostic testing

dating scan
what does the dating scan do?
the dating scan determines the stage of the pregnancy and the due date, and is used with tests for marker chemicals which vary normally during pregnancy.

anomoly scan
what is the anomoly scan used for?
to detect any physical abnormalities in the limbs and vital organs of the foetus
how often are blood and urine test done?
throughout the pregnancy
what do blood and urine tests determine?
moniter the marker chemicals produced
what happens if a chemical is measured at the wrong time ?
a false positive result can occur
what can an atypical chemical concentration lead to?
it can lead to further diagnostic testing to determine if the foetus has a medical conditon.
