Unit 2 - KA2 - Hormonal control of reproduction Flashcards
what does the Pirtuitary gland secrete
FSH and LH/ICSH
what do these homones do
trigger the onset of puberty
what does Follicle Stimulating Hormone do in Males?
Promotes the production of sperm in the seminiferous tubules of the testes
What does testosterone do?
stimulates sperm production and activates the prostate gland and seminal vesicles.
what does ICSH do
stimulates the production of testosterone from the interstitial cells of the testes
what does the hypothalamus produce and what does it do?
releaser hormone which stimulates the pituitary gland
negative feedback
regulation in biological systems where the end product of that process is used to reduce the stimulus of thta same process.
negative feedback with testosterone
when testosterone levels increase within the blood over a certain level it inhibits the secretion of FSH and ICSH from the pituitary gland, decreasing the levels of testosterone produced.
