What is the Recruitment Process ? (7 steps)
- Vacancy arises
- Complete a Job analysis

What is the definition for Job Analysis?
A job analysis identifies and records the responsibilities and tasks relating to a job
What is the definition for Job Description ?
A job description outlines the responsibilities and duties to be carried out by someone employed to do a specific job. The JD is given to applicants.
What are the functions of a job description? (2)
- It is given to applicants, so they know exactly what the job entails so they don’t waste time applying if they do not like what the job entails
- Once someone has been employed, It can allow the business to see if they are carrying out the job effectively.
What is the definition for Job Specification?
A JS is a document which outlines the qualifications, expertise and requirements for a specific job.
What is the definition of Internal Recruitment?
Internal Recruitment is when a vacancy is filled by someone who is an existing employee of the business.
What are the benefits of internal recruitment? (3)
- It is cheaper than external recruitment as there is no need to carry out external recruitment
- It can be motivating for existing employees as there is potential for a promotion
- The person is already known to the business , so the business is aware of their reliability, ability and potential before they hire them
What are the drawbacks of internal recruitment? (2)
- No new ideas or experience come into the business. E.g. product/service ideas/working practices
- There might be rivalry/conflict among employees if one employee is given the promotion over the other- leads to demotivation
What is the definition of External Recruitment?
External Recruitment- When a vacancy is filled by someone who is not an existing employee and will be new to the business
What are the benefits of external recruitment? (1)
- New ideas or experience comes into the business. E.g. product/service ideas/working practices
What are the drawbacks of external recruitment? (1)
- It is more expensive than internal recruitment as they need to advertise externally

What is the definition of full time employees?
Will usually work 35 hours a week
What are the benefits of a part time employee? (2)
- Ask employees to work busier times
- Ask employees to only work in peak hours, decreases wage cost
What are the drawbacks of a part time employee? (2)
- Takes longer to recuit a 2 part time employees than 1 full time employee
- Part time employees can be less commited to the business, e.g students to leave which leads to lower labour turnover rate
