Unit 2 ASOS 2 SAC Flashcards
Sustained attention
focusing on one stimulus or task for a long time
Divided attention
splitting attention across 2 or more stimuli at one time (multitasking)
Selective attention
focusing on one specific stimulus while ignoring all other stimuli
Bottom-up processing
analysis of minute features of a stimulus using this info to build up a meaningful whole interpretation
top-down processing
using prior knowledge to interpret the sense
Visual perception
how we interpret the light that is received by our eyes
Depth cues
info from environment (external cues) or within our body (internal cues) helps us perceive how far away objects are to perceive depth
Binocular depth cues
both eyes working together to give info about depth and distance (convergence and retinal disparity)
Monocular depth cue
only one eye to give info about depth and distance
Linear perspective
apparent convergence of linear lines as the approach the horizen
Interposition
objects partially blocks or covers another. The object that is covered is considered to be further away
Texture gradient
gradual reduction in detail of a surface as it disappears into the distance
Relative Size
tendency to perceive objects that cast a larger image on the retina as being closer
height in the visual field
position of objects in relation to the horizon. Objects closer to the horizen are considered further away
Gustatory perception
perception of taste (biological, genetics) (psychological, memory, food packaging) (social, culture)
