Quarter rest
Rhythm worth 1 beat of silence
4/4 time signature
four beats er measures (to number) quarter note is worth one beat (bottom number)
Interval
distance between two pitches
Melodic intervals (unison to octave)
two pitches of an interval are played independently. Unison (two pitches are the same pitch) 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th. Octave (two pitches are eight spaces away from each other)
Harmonic intervals (unison to octave)
Two pitches of an interval are played simultaneously Unsion 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th octave
Piano
Dynamic symbol indicates a soft volume (mf)
Mezzo forte
Dynamic symbol which indicates a loud volume (f)
Forte
Dynamic symbol which indicates a loud volume (f)
C major primary chords: C, G7, F and chord symbols
C chord, CEG, “C” G7 chord, BFG, “G7” F chord, CFA, “F”
Half rest
Rythm worth 2 beats of silence
Tied notes
(difference between TIED/SLURRED notes, they took the same) Two pitches connected by a curved line - these connected pitches are the same pitch/note. Played on the piano by compining the rhythm of the two pitches - quarter note tied to a quarter note is played for same length as a half note
Slurs
Two pitches connected by curved lines - these connected pitches are different pitches/ notes Played on the piano by connecting the notes with as little separation possible
¾ time signature
Three beats in a measure (top number) / Quarter note is worth one beat (bottom number)
Dotted half note
Half note with a dot after it worth three beats of sound
Pick up note/anacrusis
Note/notes that occur before the first full measure. The last measure of the piece is shortened by the number of beats in the pick-up measure. EX- 1 quarter note pick up, last measure will have one less quarter note.
