Introduction
The erosion of the social contract within the UK has left families struggling - introduction of the social welfare program in 1945 - unemployment rate in Scotland (4.5%) list of factors - unemployment, lowpay, education, gender, age, ethnicity.
Point one
one factor that contributes to wealth inequality in the UK is unemployment - a recent study has found 22% of the correspondents as out of work (Scot Gov) - the poverty rate for UC claimants is 54%.
Point one rebuttal
However, some people may argue that low pay is a more significant factor that contributes to wealth inequality in the UK - 3/5 of those in poverty are in working households - the poverty rate is more than 2 times for part-time work than full-time - part-time - 23% full time - 11%
Point two
Another factor that contributes to wealth inequality is education - education has long been known to be a “silver bullet” in regard to preventing poverty - 40% of those in poverty have no formal qualifications.
Point two rebuttal
However some people may argue that gender is a more significant factor that contrubutes to wealth inequality - women earn 90p for every £1 a man makes.
Point three
A final factor that contributes to wealth inequality is age - 1 in 4 children live in poverty - dependent on thier carers financial situation compared to 1 in 6 pentioners -more time to build wealth aswell as more help from the government.

However, some people may argue that ethnicity is a more significant factor that contributes to wealth inequality - the poverty rate for ethnic children is 2 times that of whites - ethnic households are 3 times more likey to be in deep poverty compared to whites
