the purpose of antenatal screening is to identify risk of disorder so that further tests and a prenatal diagnosis can be offered.

dating scans are scans which determine a pregnancy stage and a due date, they are used in conjunction with marker chemicals which vary normally during pregnancy.

a dating scan takes place between 8 and 14 weeks
when does an anomaly scan take place
anomaly scans take place between 18 and 20 weeks

an anomaly scan detects serious abnormalities within the fetus.
