He was considered “the people’s president” and a hero to the “common man” because while growing up, he wasn’t rich or fancy. He was very poor, orphaned at a young age, and he survived smallpox, he fought in the American Revolution at age 13, and he was known for getting in fighting. He is similar to the common man. He had accomplished so much through hard work and dedication.
