Unit 10 - Probability Flashcards
What is the equation for probability?
Successful outcomes divided by total number of outcomes.
What is probability always between?
1 and 0
What can probability be displayed as?
A decimal
Fraction
Or percentage
What are TWO diagrams for probability?
Sample space diagram
Tree diagram
Venn diagram
What is an independent event?
When one event happens, it doesn’t affect another.
What are mutually exclusive events?
When two events can’t happen at the same time.
What happens the more times you do an experiment?
It becomes more accurate.
What does the AND rule mean?
You MULTIPLY them.
What does the OR rule mean?
You ADD THEM.
What is a sample space diagram?
A table showing all the possible outcomes.
What is experimental probability?
When you do an experiment several times to get more results for more accuracy in order to prove your prediction.
What is the equation for the relative frequency?
Number of successful trials divided by the total number or trails.
What is the expected probability?
What you expect the probability to be.
What is the equation for expected probability?
Probability x number or trails.
What is a Venn diagram?
Two circles displaying probability.
What is the name for the whole of a Venn diagram?
A UNIVERSAL SET.
What is the intersection on a Venn diagram?
Where A and B cross.
What is the Union in a Venn diagram?
Everything in A, B and in the intersection.
What happens if the letter has a dash by it?
Then it is everything BUT that thing.
What is a Venn diagram written as?
SET NOTATION.
What must each branch add to on a tree diagram?
1
What is a key rule for tree diagrams?
MULTIPLY ACROSS
ADD DOWN.
What happens if he person puts the thing back?
Then the next branch isn’t reduced by anything.
