A

So that elements with similar properties form columns. Vertical columns are called groups.

A

They are all metals that react with water to form an alkaline solution and hydrogen gas.
They react with oxygen to form an oxide.

The noble gases. They have full outer shells (all have 8 apart from helium which has 2), so they are stable thus unreactive.
