Q

Define a Cristae in the mitochondria.

A

It is a fold in the inner membrane in the mitochondrion. It has the characteristic of a wrinkled shape. The purpose is to increase the surface area of the mitochondrial membrane.

Q

Define the Mitochondrial Matrix.

A

It is a gel-like material that performs cellular respiration. It contains proteins. It converts pyruvate and fatty acids to produce ATP.

Q

What are enzymes and what do they do?

A

Enzymes are proteins that speed up reaction rates. They themselves are not a part of the experiment however they speed up the reaction by supplying oxygen.

Q

What is denature??

A

it causes an enzyme to lose its shape and affects it’s function due to other effecting factors (pH, temperature)
