Def: aprox 14th-16th centuries, french word for rebirth
Sig: had lasting change in society, moving from old thinking to new way of being. secularism, changes in economy, merchant class, fall of feudal system, persuit of knowledge, state power.
Feudalism
Def: nobility held lands for crown in return for military service
Sig: in the renissance period we began seeing a decrease in feudalism, the economy was no longer based on land but on trade+credits+markets

Sig: writer of “the prince”
The prince
Def: written in 1513 published 1532, a political treatise. Written to gain favour of Medici family offering advice on how a prince should gain+keep power.
Sig:viewed humans as inately evil, you had to be shrewed in order to gain power. impacted political leaders by introducing his philosophy.
Humanism
Def: revival or ancient greek+latin, concerned with wordly affairs.
Sig: (living, human dignity, responsible citizens) they shifted the focus from the divine to how we are to live on earth, which had a lasting impact on society. human nature believed to be full of potential

Sig: Mona Lisa + last supper, also created designs for helicopter tank solar power and calculator.

Sig: encouraged people to advance and think and grow
