UNIT 1 - PART 4 - Integumentary System Flashcards
What type of tissue is found in the Epidermis?
Stratified squamous epithelium
What type of tissue is found in the Dermis?
Dense irregular connective tissue
What type of tissue is found in the Hypodermis?
Adipose connective tissue
Layers of the Epidermis:
Stratum Corneum
(1) Very outside of skin. Flakes off as new cells grow underneath
Layers of the Epidermis:
Stratum Lucidum
(2) Only found in callused skin
Layers of the Epidermis:
Stratum Granulosum
(3) Granules of keratin protein forming inside cells
Layers of the Epidermis:
Stratum Spinosum
(4) second layer of “squashed
cells”
Layers of the Epidermis:
Stratum Basale
(5) new cells of the epidermis at the base level
Layers of the Epidermis:
Papillary layer of the dermis
(6) contains capillaries to feed the epidermis
Reticular layer
(7) This layer is between the Stratum Basale and the Hypodermis
Hypodermis
(8) This area is below the Stratum Basale
Cells of the Epidermis:
Keratinocytes
- begin life in the stratum basale and die over the course of moving into outer
layers. - Creates a force pushing outward so pathogens cannot move into the skin
- Keratin protein found within these cells that creates the waterproof barrier of our
skin
Cells of the Epidermis:
