Structural Functionalism Definition
Is a macro-theory that addresses society as a whole, and looks at how interdependent elements of society such as norms, traditions and institutions are vital for maintaining internal stability

Institutions definition

Youth definition
Youth is a socially constructed life stage between childhood and adulthood
Social Category Definition
Social categories are individual who share a common characteristic(s) but do not necessarily interact
Social Group Definition
A group within society that interact regularly with a common purpose. (eg Booooootang, family, 10 Riley)
Social Aggregate Definition
People who are together for the same purpose but who do not necessarily interact (people at the movies, footy supporters, airport, restaurant)
Moral Panic Definition
The intensity of feeling expressed in a population about an issue that appears to threaten the social order
Youth Stereotypes:
Often depicted negatively in the media. Violent, thugs, disrespectful, lawless, lazy, always on mobile phones, arrogant, sex driven.
Ethnicity different experiences of youth
- Different cultural social norms dictate what youth does.
- Ethnicity provides an identity for youth.
- Different roles in the household.
- Different morals, beliefs, religions, culture.
