Unit 1 Lesson 5 Flashcards
Species
Is a group of organisms that are very closely related
(The second part of the name)
Genus
Includes similar species
(The first part of the name)
Domain
Represents the largest differences among organisms
There are 3 domains: bacteria, archaea, and eukarya
Bacteria
Is made of prokaryotes that usually have a cell wall and reproduce by cell division
Archaea
Is also made up of prokaryotes . The cell wall is different from the cell wall of bacteria
Live in harsh, sometimes very hot environments
Eukarya
Is made up of all eukaryotes
Kingdom Protista
Are single-celled or multicellular organisms such as algae and slime molds
May be autotrophs or heterotrophs
Have sexual or asexual reproduction
Kingdom Plantae
Consists of multicellular organisms that have cell walls, mostly made of cellulose
Are autotrophs
Have sexual and asexual reproduction
Kingdom Animalia
Contains multicellular organisms that lack cell walls
Are heterotrophs
Both sexual and asexual reproduction
Kingdom Fungi
Gets energy by absorbing materials
Single cellular or multicellular
Heterotrophs
Sexual and asexual reproduction
How do we classify living things?
By physical and chemical characteristics
