Unitary Government
Power belongs to a central agency. Little bit of power to local govt.
Federal Government
Power divided between central and several local agencies (division of powers)
Sovereign
supreme and absolute power within its own territory and can decide its own foreign and domestic policies
Confederation
Alliance of independent states, can only handle what members assigned it.
Constitution
a body of fundamental principles or established precedents according to which a state or other organization is acknowledged to be governed.

King of England limited monarchy agreement

Two House
Popular sovereignty
National govt draws power from people, can only govern w/ consent of governed
Articles of Confederation
First attempt at govt that was weak bc it wasn’t given that much power due to fear of tyranny
Connecticut Compromise
Set up two house legislature, one based on population, the other equal representation.
3/5 Compromise
Slaves are counted as 3/5 a person for sake of taxation
Federalist
Supported constitution and were for federalism
Anti-Federalists
Against constitution and were against federalism
Judicial Review
Determine whether government/laws are acting within the constitution.
Amendment
Change to the constitution
