-infants are innate to forming attachments
-infants form one primary attachment in early years
-infancy is critical to forming attachments
-disruption to attachments will cause negative impact to development.
-attachment to primary care giver is a model for future attachments
what are schaffers and emersons stages of attachment?
birth-3 months = respond to any care giver
4-7months=shows preference to primary care giver but still accepts care from others
7-9months= prefers primary care giver and seeks comfort in them unhappy when separated from them
10 months+ = begins to develop attachments with others
whats Ainsworths strange situation classification?
=studied a child reaction when parted from their parents
1.if the infant had a secure attachment the parent is in tune with the infants emotions and the infant will become distressed when left and when they return they seek comfort from the primary care giver, happy with stranger if caregiver present
2.if infant has a insecure/avoidant attachment the parent is unavailable to the child or rejects them. the child will not show distress when left and may go o the stranger for comfort
3.if the infant has an insecure attachment the parent is inconsistent when meeting the childs needs and the child will show distress when left but resist contact when they return
