unit 0 vocab Flashcards
absolute zero
When a substance is at the lowest temperature possible and heat energy is not present.
filtration
The process of removing solids from a liquid by the use of a filter medium.
filtrate
The resulting liquid after being passed through filtration.
reagent
A substance or compound is added to a system to test or induce a chemical reaction.
supernatant
A liquid lying on top of a solid or sediment during settling.
precipitate
A solid that is formed due to a chemical reaction in a solution.
halides/halogens
A halogen is an element that forms salt when it reacts with a metal. (fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), iodine (I), astatine (At), tennessine (Ts)). Halides are halogens that have a negative charge. (F, Cl, Br, I, At, Ts) Group 17.
Alkaline earth metal
Alkaline earth metals are highly metallic and are good energy conductors. They are any of the elements in group 2. (Beryllium (Be), Magnesium (Mg), Barium (Ba), Calcium (Ca), Strontium (Sr), Radium (Ra)).
