Give examples of music agencies and what they do.
PRS (Performing Rights Society)- Licences the composer’s copyright to perform in public.
MCPS (Mechanical Copyright Protection Society)- Licenses the composer’s copyright for sound recordings.
PPL (Phonographic Performance Limited)- Licenses the right to perform sound recordings and collects royalties for record companies and performers on recordings.
What is a music agency?
An organisation that provides a particular service on behalf of a business or artist.
Give examples of music unions/trade bodies and what they do.
MU (Musician’s Union)- Represents musicians, music teachers and instrumental teachers.
Equity- Represents all those who work in the theatre industry (actors, dancers, stage managers, choreographers, backstage crew, directors)
MPG- (Music Producer’s Guild)- Represents all those working in the production of recorded music.
APRS (Association of Professional Recording Services)- Represents all those who work in the audio industry in the UK.
PLASA (Professional Lighting and Sound Association)- Represents all those who are professional lighting and sound technicians.
