Understanding Plate Tectonics Flashcards
Has anyone seen plate tectonics occurring?
No
Why has no one seen plate tectonics occurring?
Because it is extremely difficult to measure such minor changes over such long distances
Does there seem to be evidence for the plate tectonic theory
Yes
What are the three evidences of plate tectonics?
Large crustal plates, mid Atlantic ridge, major mountain ranges and fault lines somewhat line up when the continents are pieced back together
In the secular science view of the plate tectonic theory, the material in the mantle moves in what as the hotter magma rises from the core
Convection currents
These convection currents do what to the continents?
They Slowly move the continents at a steady rate of a few centimeters per year
Plate tectonics through continental drift show how long of a history of plate movement?
A long history history (millions of years)
What are the 4 questions we must consider with this theory
Is the mantle really liquid enough to have large convection currents?
Are the convection currents strong enough to drive whole continents across the face of the earth?
How is it that the slow movement of the plates causes an entire plate, 3-37 miles thick of rock to move under another plate that is also 3-37 miles thick?
Is there a better theory???
With the hydroplate theory, does is it have an assumption that natural laws and naturalistic thought are active?
No it has an assumption that God is active in creation and His word is true
What does the hydroplate theory focus on and where is this described in the Bible
It focuses on the fountains of the deep which is described in genesis 7:11
What is the first assumption of the hydroplate theory concerning thick layers of rock?
Subterranean pools of water were under thick layers of rock
True/False there are no longer any pools of subterranean water under the rock in the earths crust today because it the water dried up
False there are still pools of subterranean water under thousands of feet of rock of the earth’s crust today
These still existing subterranean pools of water are supposedly remnants of what and are what type of water?
They are supposedly remnants of the original subterranean waters and are salt water
The second assumption of the hydroplate theory concerning the water is what?
The water deep inside the crust was under tremendous pressure
The third assumption states what about how God caused the flood
Somehow God caused the beginning of the flood, the crust of the earth cracked and the subterranean waters were ejected out of the earth at a high velocity
