Understanding Anatomy and Physiology Flashcards

1
Q

How would you explain the field of anatomy to one of your friends?

A

There are two major fields of the study of anatomy. The Gross Anatomy which studies large, visible structures like muscles, bones and tissues. The Microscopic Anatomy study structures that are much smaller, such as cells and molecules.

Q

What is the anatomical position?

A

The body is straight in the standing position, eyes looking straight ahead, the arms are hanging close by the sides of the body, palms facing forward

Q

What is the supine position?

A

The bodies lying down on his back with face pointing upwards, all the remaining positions are the same as the anatomical position

Q

What is the sagittal plane?

Q

What does posterior mean?

A

Towards the back: for example The Botox are sometimes called the posterior because they are towards the back of your body

Q

What does lateral mean?

A

Away from the median line, farther from the midline of the body: for example the ears are lateral to the eyes

17
Q

What does bilateral mean?

A

Refers to a pair of structures one on each side: for example the lungs are bilateral
