Four Main Tissues Flashcards
What is the function of the Epithelial Tissues?
Protection, secretion, absorption, excretion
Where is the epithelial tissue located?
Covering body surface, covering the lining internal organs, composing glands
What are distinguishing characteristics of the epithelial tissue?
Lack of blood vessels, cells are tightly packed and readily divide
What are examples of epithelial tissue?
Make up skin and walls of organs
What is the function of the muscle tissue?
Movement
Where is the muscle tissue located?
Attached to bones, in the walls of hollow internal organs, heart
What are distinguishing characteristics of the muscle tissue?
Contract in response to specific stimuli
What are examples of muscle tissue?
Makes up heart, walls of stomach and blood vessels, skeleton muscles that help body move
What is the function of the connective tissue?
Bind, support, protect, fill in spaces, store fat, produce blood cells
Where is the connective tissue located?
Distributed throughout the whole body
What are distinguishing characteristics of the connective tissue?
Can be vascular or a vascular with cells farther apart than other tissues with materials to created by the cells in between them
What are examples of the connective tissue?
Blood, bone, cartilage, connecting muscles to bones, making up framework of many organs
What is the function of the nervous tissue?
Conduct impulses for coordination, regulation, integration, and sensory perception
Where is the nervous tissue located?
Brain, spinal cord, nerves
What are distinguishing characteristics of the nervous tissue?
Cells communicate with each other and with other body parts
