politics, famine, poverty
What subpopulations in the United States are at an increased risk of malnutrition?
- Working poor - they may or may not qualify for food assistance.
- Isolated individuals such as alcoholics, mentally ill or drug addicts who lack access to food resources.
- Homeless related to limited income and lack of consistent cooking facilities.
- Elderly due to economic difficulties, physical limitations and social isolation.

How does population growth in the developing world contribute to undernutrition?
Can lead to a food shortage, especially in the poorest and least developed countries. Though it is estimated there is enough food to feed everyone in the world, but there are many disparities that exist between the developed and under developed countries, among the rich and poor in a particular country and also food distribution in families that make it difficult to lower this gap.
Currently there is not a food shortage as much as an inequality in food distribution
What are other factors that can contribute to undernutrition in the developing world?
Depletion of farmland and water
War and Political unrest
Inadequate shelter and sanitation
Natural disasters
What three approaches is the World Food Bank currently undertaking to counter undernutrition ?
increasing diversity of the food supply,
fortifying food with nutrients
and providing nutrient supplementation
