Underframe Equipment Flashcards
Where is the Whistle isolation cock located?
In the panel to the left of driver’s seat
How is the trip operated?
Electrically
How do you reset the trip?
Train at 0kmh
MCH from B6 to COAST
What happens when the Trip is activated?
Trip Reset Switch will illuminate RED
Safety Loop Opens
Emergency Brakes apply
What protects the Trip?
Where is it located?
A CB in the panel behind the fire extinguisher
Trip this CB to drive with Trip raised
What is the Towing Unit used for? (4)
Charge the BP to 550kPa
Apply brakes
Apply emergency brakes
Read BP when being rescued
How is the Towing Unit made active?
Train must be in BP Mode with Key Switch in ‘I’
What power supply does the Towing Unit run on?
110vDC
How does the Towing Unit work?
It reads and writes to and from the BP during Non-Electrical train rescue
It READS electrical signal from BCH and converts it to a reduction in pneumatic pressure in the BP (towards the coupler)
What position is the MR to Towing Unit I.C. in for train rescue and normal operation of train?
Open
Only maintenance staff can isolate
What happens if the Towing Unit fails?
Emergency brakes will apply
What do you have to do to towing cock if rescuing?
Isolate it
Turn it
What does towing cock do?
Reduces main res pressure to 700kPa between Siemens and Comeng during rescue
Prevents Comeng overcharging
What happens to pressure gauges when towing cock is turned?
Local Main res will show reduced pressure of 700kPa
- so normal to get a flashing uncouple light
Rest of the Siemens train will operate at normal pressure and show 850-1000kPa
What kind of coupler does Siemens have?
Dellner
What does the rip cord do on the coupler?
Manual uncoupling
We don’t use
What does the electrical coupler handle do?
Manual electrical uncoupling
We don’t use
What are Brake Resistor Grids used for?
Dissipating heat from ED braking
What does the Traction Inverter do?
Converts 1500vDC to Variable 3 Phase AC for Traction Motors
What does the TCU do?
Processes signals from MCH and powers traction motors accordingly
Powers:
Power
ED brakes
Holding brakes
What does the High Voltage Container have in it?
HSCBs
Ground Switch
BCU
What does the BCU do?
Sends electrical signals to Brake module 1 and 2 to apply and release brakes
What does the Brake Module do?
Converts electrical signal from BCU to pneumatic pressure to apply and release friction brakes
What does the air compressor do?
Generates air for braking and suspension systems
What does the Compressor Pressure switch do?
Monitors the level of compressed air in Main a
Res. and starts/stops the air compressor when required
What happens when Compressor Pressure Switch is isolated?
The air compressor will run continuously
What do the Static Inverters do?
Convert 1500vDC to 400vAC for. BATH
What is in the Auxiliary Container?
Control equipment for SIVs and BCU for T-car
What do the batteries power when the train is down?
Raising pantographs
Step lights
Desk light
Initialising start up systems
