What are the surgical approaches for oesophagectomy?

A

Left or right transthoracic
- Right thoracic + laparotomy (classic Ivor-Lewis approach) -> upper 2/3rds

Trans-hiatal
- Involves laparotomy and neck incision
- Generally used in palliative cases, or where thoracotomy is ill-advised
