primary muscle of the UES, inferior portion of the inferior pharyngeal constrictor, relaxes during swallowing, fibers run horizontally and slightly kidney-shaped, motor and sensory innervation from Pharyngeal Plexus (pharyngeal branch of CN X vagus and CN IX glossopharyngeal)
superior esophagus
circular fibers, motor and sensory innervation from Pharyngeal Plexus (pharyngeal branch of CN X vagus and CN IX glossopharyngeal)
