larynx muscles Flashcards
cricothyroid
intrinsic, tensor, lengthens and tenses vocal folds (changing pitch), rocks the thyroid forward in relation to the cricoid cart; 2 bellies- pars recta and pars oblique, bilateral cricoid cart to thyroid cart, innervated by ESLN
motor innervation for larynx muscles
CN X- Vagus
recurrent laryngeal nerve (below vocal folds) and external superior laryngeal nerve
(cricothyroid only ESLN)
sensory innervation
CN X- vagus
thyroarytenoid- thyrovocalis
intrinsic, tensor, tenses vocal folds, medial part of vocal folds, contraction draws thyroid and cricoid cart father apart, courses thyroid cart and arytenoid cart
thyroarytenoid- thryomuscularis
intrinsic, relaxer, lateral portion of vocal folds, relaxes vocal folds, courses thyroid cart and arytenoid cart
lateral cricoarytenoid
intrinsic, adductor, causes arytenoid to move forward and medially, primary means of vocal adduction, courses cricoid cart and arytenoid cart
transverse interarytenoid
intrinsic, adductor, medial compression(loudness and intensity) of vocal folds, courses between paired arytenoids ==
oblique interarytenoids
intrinsic, adductor, causes medial vocal compression, rocks arytenoids down and in, connects between paired arytenoid X
posterior cricoarytenoid
intrinsic, abductor, active during forced abduction for respiration and voiceless consonants (opens the airway back up), courses arytenoids and epiglottis
aryepiglottic
intrinsic, auxiliary, aids in laryngeal vestibular closure- epiglottic invasion, pivots arytenoids forward, courses arytenoids and epiglottis
thyrepiglottic
intrinsic, auxiliary, brings epiglottis and thyroid cart closer together, moves epiglottis anterior and upright, courses epiglottis and thyroid
