UA TSA Flashcards
Stabilized Approach Criteria
By 1500’ or FAF whichever occurs later:
- Landing gear down
- Airspeed no greater than 180 KIAS
By 1000’ AGL:
- Final landing configuration
- Landing checklist complete
- Airspeed within +15 and -5 KIAS of target speed
- On lateral profile or correcting with bracketing maneuvers not to exceed +/- 300FPM
- Sustained vertical speed not greater than 1200 FPM
- PM shall announce deviations
At or below 500’
- Except for momentary airspeed and descent deviations, PM announces “go around” and reason (eg, speed)
DAMCLAS
Decision Making
• Ability to use logical and sound judgment based on information available
Assertiveness
• Two challenge rule:
If the pilot does not respond to two demands (i.e. “wave-off, wave-off!”) take the controls
Sandbag Syndrome:
Comfort feeling that the other crew member has the situation under control
No pilot is above the momentary lapse of judgment or situational awareness
Stay alert and speak up when necessary
Mission Analysis
• Ability to coordinate, allocate, and monitor crew and aircraft resources
Communication
Leadership
• Ability to direct and coordinate activities of crew, and stimulate them to work as a team
Adaptability/Flexibility
• Ability to alter a course of action to meet situation demands
Situational Awareness
MEA
Minimum En-route Altitude
lowest published altitude between radio navigation fixes that assures acceptable navigational signal coverage and meets obstacle clearance requirements between those fixes.
MOCA
Minimum Obstacle Clearance Altitude
lowest published altitude in effect between fixes on VOR airways or route segments that meets obstacle (like a building or a tower) clearance requirements for the entire route segment. Within the United States, this altitude also assures acceptable navigational signal coverage only within 22 nm of a VOR
MSA
Minimum Sector Altitude (MSA)
lowest altitude which may be used which will provide a minimum clearance of 1 000 ft above all objects located in the area contained within a sector of a circle of 25 NM radius centred on a radio aid to navigation
MORA
Route MORAs provide an obstacle clearance within 10 nautical miles on both sides of the airways and within a 10-nautical-mile radius around the ends of the airways. Grid MORAs provide an obstacle clearance altitude within a latitude and longitude grid block, usually of one degree by one degree
MORA values clear all terrain by 2000 feet in areas where the highest elevations are 5001 feet MSL or higher.
Discuss TEM
Threats - generally defined as events or errors that occur beyond the influence of the line personnel, increase operational complexity, and which must be managed to maintain the margins of safety.
Errors - generally defined as actions or inactions by the line personnel that lead to deviations from organisational or operational intentions or expectations.
Undesired states - generally defined as operational conditions where an unintended situation results in a reduction in margins of safety.
