U4 AOS1 - Fitness Components & Fitness Testing Flashcards
body composition
The percentage of fat, muscle and bone in the body.
Aerobic power
The maximum rate of energy production from the aerobic energy system.
Muscular strength
The maximal force that can be generated by a muscle, or muscle group, in one maximal effort (over time).
Muscular endurance
The ability of muscles to perform repeated contractions against a resistance over a long period of time.
Flexibility
The capacity to move a joint through its full range of motion.
anaerobic capacity
The total amount of ATP obtainable from the anaerobic energy systems.
muscular power
the ability of the muscle or muscle groups to produce force as quickly as possible in a contraction.
speed
Rate of motion of different body parts
agility
The ability to rapidly and accurately change direction.
balance
The ability to maintain equilibrium when stationary or moving.
coordination
The ability to perform motor skills smoothly, efficiently and accurately.
reaction time
the time it takes to respond to a stimulus.
Isoinertial ms contraction
muscle action where the load or resistance against the muscle is constant throughout the motion.
Concentric: the muscle length decreases.
Eccentric: the muscle length increases.
Isometric ms contraction
the muscle length remains unchanged (gripping a racquet handle).
Isokinetic ms contraction
the resistance changes according to joint angle (requires special machines like the cybex & nautilus which allows maximum contractions through the full range of movement).
