the genome is made up of coding regions (genes) and non-coding regions. less than 2 percent of the genome codes for protien.

A

a sequence of DNA which codes for the production of a protein

what do the non-coding regions of DNA do?

A

Some non-coding sequences are involved in regulating transcription. some are transcribed to RNA but are never translated into protein (e.g. rRNA, tRNA). many non-coding sequences have no known function.
