Explain the term plagioclimax
A plagioclimax is a community that does not develop to a natural climax, but is maintained by external influences including human activities such as burning grazing or ploughing.

Tourism intended to have a low environmental impact, usually involving seeing wildlife
Why the conservation in UK is increasingly important?
Conservation in the UK is increasingly important as the population have more leisure time, becomes more mobile, agriculture changes and urban development encroaches further into the countryside.
What is Natural England?
It’s a governmental organisation with responsibility for the conservation of wildlife and the landscape

Who designed Sites of Specific Scientific Interest and what are they?
SSSI are designated by Natural England under Wildlife and Countryside Act. They are area of particular interest because of their plants, animals, geological features or land forms. An example would be the Isle of Portland, Dorset

What are National Nature Reserves?
NNRS are designated by Natural England under the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act. The aim is to secure protection and appropriate management of the most important areas of wildlife habitat, to provide a resource for scientific research and to provide a resource for recreation so long as this does not compromise the wildlife habitat. (They are usually SSSI)
What are Local Nature Reserves?
LNRs are designated under National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act. They are owned by the local authorities for the benefit of wildlife and the public. They are protected from damaging activities in the reserve itself and on surrounding land
What are Marine Nature Reserves?
MNR are designated under the Wildlife and Countryside Act to conserve and provide opportunities for the study of marine wildlife and interesting geological and physio graphical features.
What are Special Protection Areas?
SPA are designated by Natural England under the EU Birds Directive to help protect and manage areas that are important for rare and vulnerable birds because they use them for breeding, feeding, wintering or migration.
What are Special Areas of Conservation ?
SACs are designated under the EU Habitat Directive and provide rare and vulnerable animals, plants and habitat with increased protection and management. An example is Dorset Heaths.
What is Natural 2000?
SPAs and SPACs together make up natura 2000 série of protected sites in the EU. Each country is responsible for identifying and protecting its own sites.
