Causes of Typhoon Haiyan

A
  • formed in the pacific ocean at the latitude of 7 degrees north
  • sea temperature was over 26.5
  • ocean was well over 60 metres deep
  • coriolis effect started the storm spinning
  • storm moved westwards passed little land to slow it down so it - kept gaining energy from the warm ocean
  • winds up to 315km/h and lots of heavy rain
  • low air pressure meant storm surges reached 6 metres in places which caused coastal flooding
