Q

Differences between Fartlek and continuous training

A

Continuous - constant speed whereas
Fartlek - different speeds
Continuous - the same intensity
Whereas
Fartlek - different intensities
Continuous - carried out over longer distances
Whereas
Fartlek - different distances
Continuous eg jogging/running at a steady pace , trains CV endurance a marathon runner doesn’t want to slow down in the second half
Whereas
Fartlek - involves exercises like sprint jog walk, trains CV endurance/speed a netballer wants to perform better towards the end of matches

Q

What are the types of interval training and what is it

A

Interval training normally includes high intensity intervals which alternate with periods of rest
Eg HIIT Circuit weight plyometric

Q

HIIT

A

(High intensity interval training)
High intensity intervals which alternates with periods of recovery or low intensity intervals
Eg burpees lunges
Plank sit ups
Sprint slow jog
Speed , a hockey player wants to mark opponents better

Q

Circuit training

A

Involves a series of stations at different intensities
Target different muscles at each station
You can work at each station for a certain amount of time or do a certain amount of reps/exercises/sets at each station
You would normally have a rest period between each station
Normally use body weight as resistance
Eg upper body - press-ups tricep dips pull up bar sit ups
Lower body - calve raises squats lunges
Muscular endurance (any)

Q

Weight training

A

Involves pulleys/cables/weights as resistance
Normally focuses on specific muscles
Using a low weight and doing a higher number of reps will train muscular endurance
Using a high weight a doing a lower number of reps will trains strength
Eg a rugby player wants to become a better tackler

Q

Plyometric training

A

Training that involves lots of rapid and repeated muscle contractions
Exercises are designed to lengthen/stretch the muscles before rapidly shortening the muscle
Typical exercises include HOPPING AND BOUNDING
The lengthening stage is know as accentric contraction and the shortening stage is known as concentric contraction
Improves power (explosiveness) of the muscle
A high jumper want to get better scores
