What is a pre medication?
An oral tablet given to help the patient sleep the night before treatment
What is a pin index connection?
It stops pipes being connected to the wrong gas cylinder
What is a yoke?
It is what holds the cylinders in place
What is a free standing inhalation unit?
It has 2 oxygen and 2 nitrous oxide cylinders, one in use and one full
What is a piped inhalation system?
This is where gas cylinders are kept in a storage unit
What is the purpose of the reservoir bag in Inhalation sedation?
This indicates how well the patient is breathing and taking in the gases. It should be 3/4 inflated.
If it’s under inflated the flow rate of gas is too low and the patient is trying to take in more gas than there is (and visa versa)
What is a sphygmomanometer?
Manual blood pressure monitor
What are the name of the sounds you listen out for when taking a manual blood pressure reading?
Korotkoff sounds
What is the K1 sound when taking a manual blood pressure reading?
Audible sharp thud
Giving the systolic reading
What is the K2 sound when taking a manual blood pressure reading?
Blowing or swishing sound
What is the K3 sound when taking a manual blood pressure reading?
A thudding sound
What is the K4 sound when taking a manual blood pressure reading?
A muffled sound

Blood flow is laminar (constant)
