What is an absolute monarchy?
In an absolute monarchy, the ruler makes and enforces the rules and is usually born to the position.
Eg: King, Sultan, Czar, Shah
Countries: Saudi Arabia
Who rules a dictatorship?
A dictator rules a dictatorship and is often a military leader who has come to power by force. He rules alone.
Eg: Joseph Stalin (Soviet Union, 1922-1953)
Fidel Castro (Cuba, 1959-2011)
Robert Mugabe (Zimbabwe)
Vladimir Putin (Russia)
Who rules a constitutional monarchy?
A king, queen, or emperor usually rules a constitutional monarchy. They are born to the position, but rule making powers are usually given to a government by a constitution.
Eg: Queen Elizabeth (UK, Australia)
Emperor Akihito (Japan)
Who rules a republic?
A republic is run by a president who is elected by the people. No one person or group has all the power.
Eg: Barack Obama (US)
Nicolas Sarkozy (France)
