The name given to motorways in Germany. Speed limit of 130km/h
What are the different types of roads?
Motorways, dual carriageways, single carriageways, single-track roads, primary routes, non primary routes, autobahn, autostrada.
What is a motorway?
Fast moving roads that usually link to major cities.
What are some characteristics of motorways?
-Have a number of traffic lanes going each direction.
-Speed limit of 70mph
-Road signs are white lettering blue background
What is not allowed on motorways?
Stopping and U-Turns
What is a dual-carriageway?
Fast moving Road with 2 traffic lanes that link major towns and cities.
What is the right hand lane in a dual carriageway used for?
Fast moving traffic and overtaking.
What are characteristics of a single carriageway?
No central reservation to separate lanes of traffic travelling opposite directions. Speed limit of 60mph
What is a single track road?
Roads with only one traffic lane.
What do vehicles have to do when meeting an opposing vehicle on a single track road?
Pull into a wide enough gap and let other vehicle pass.
What is a primary route?
Used to describe all major roads, except for motorways.
What is a non primary route?
Ordinary town (urban) or country (rural) roads.
