Types Of Neurons And The Reflex Arc (lesson 6) Flashcards
What are the three types of neurons?
1) Sensory neurons
2) Motor neurons
3) Interneurons (association neurons)
Carry impulses from eyes, nose, mouth, ears and skin to the CNS
sensory
What does the motor neurons do?
Carry impulses from the CNS to muscles or glands
What do the interneurons do?
Carry impulses between sensory and motor neuron. These are only found in brain and spinal cord
What is white matter?
Has myelinated (fatty tissues) axons
What type of matter have nerve cell bodies, dendrites and some unmyelinated axons
Grey matter
What part of the brain is apart of the grey matter?
Cerebrum and outer layer of cortex
What part of the brain is apart of the white matter
Inner surface of medulla
What type of matter does the spinal cord have?
White matter outside
grey matter inside
What do receptors pick up for organisms?
Pick up information about organisms internal and external environment
Explain “The Reflex Arc”
When you touch something painful/hot, your body uses Reflex Arc to move affected part away.
Your body pulls the effected body part away before you feel any pain
What are the steps in “The Reflex Arc”
1) Receptors
2) Sensory neurons
3) Interneurons
4) Motor neurons
5) Effectors
