Flexion
to bend a joint
when you flex at a joint, the angle at the joint diminishes
anterior
Extension
to stretch out, or straighten a joint
when you extend at a joint, the angle at the joint increases
posterior
Hyperextension
to straighten at a joint beyond 180 degrees
to overextend
Abduction
to move away from the midline or sagittal plane
Adduction
to move towards the midline
Circumduction
a circular movement of the trunk or limb that combines flexion, abduction, extension, and adduction
Lateral flexion
to bend the trunk laterally or sideways
Rotation
to rotate the body or a limb around its long vertical axis
Plantar flexion
to bend at the ankle by bringing the toes away from the knee
Dorsiflexion
to bend at the ankle by bringing the toes towards the knee
Inversion
Bending the foot inward
Eversion
Bending the foot outward
Pronation
Rotation of forearm so that the palm turns downward
Supination
Rotation of forearm so that that palm turns upward
Ulnar deviation
Sideways movement of the hand at the wrist
