Types of LTM Flashcards
1
Q
Who proposed that there are three different LTM stores and what are they?
A
Tulving proposed that there’s procedural, semantic and episodic memory
2
Q
Outline procedural memory
A
- responsible for knowing how to do things
- e.g. motor skills such as riding a bike
- memories are non - declarative as they dont involve conscious recall
- area of brain responsible is cerebellum and motor cortex
3
Q
Outline semantic memory
A
- responsible for storing knowledge about world
- e.g. meaning of words and general knowledge facts
- memories are non - declarative as they do involve conscious recall
- not time stamped as we dont remember when we learnt/coded info
- area of brain responsible is temporal lobe
4
Q
Outline episodic memory
A
- responsible for storing info about events experienced in life at a specific time
- e.g. first day of school
- memories are declarative as they involve conscious recall
- time stamped as we remember when we learnt/coded info
- area of brain responsible is hippocampus
5
Q
What are the three AO3 points to evaluate types of LTM by Tulving?
A
strength - scientific methods
strength - RTS by clive wearing
Discussion - low pop val
