- Synchondrosis
2. Symphysis
6 Synovial Joint Types
- Plane
- Hinge
- Pivot
- Condyloid

- Ball and Socket
Suture
Fibrous Joint
Articulating bones connected by thin layer of dense irregular connective tissue
Some replaced by synostosis
Coronal sitire
Syndesmosis
Articulating bones connected by more dense irregular connective tissue, like a ligament
Interosseous membrane
Articulating bones united by substantial sheet of dense irregular connective tissue
Between tibia and fibula
Synchondrosis
Connecting material is hyaline cartilage
Becomes synostosis when bone elongation ceases
Epiphyseal plate between epiphysis and diaphysis of long bone
Symphysis
Connecting material is fibrocartilage
Pubic symphysis and intervertebral joints
Plane Joints
Articulated surfaces are flat or slightly curved
Intercarpal, intertarsal, sternocostal, vertebrocostal
Hinge
Convex surface fits into concave surface
Knee
Elbow
Ankle
Pivot
Rounded or pointed surface fits into ring formed partly by bone and partly by ligament
Radioulnar joint
Condyloid
Oval shaped projection fits into oval-shaped depression
Radiocarpal and metacarpophalangeal joints
Saddle
Articular surface of one bone is saddle shaped, articular surface of other bone sits in saddle
Carpometacarpal joint between trapezium and metacarpal of thumb
Ball and socket
Ball-like surface fits into cuplike depression
Shoulder and hip joints
