Types of experiment Flashcards
1
Q
what are the different tyoes of experiments
A
- laboratory
- field
- natural
- Quasi
2
Q
explain what laboratory experiments entail
A
- conducted in highly controlled environments
- doesn’t always have to be a lab- can also be a classroom for example
3
Q
explain what a field experiment entails
A
- The IV is manipulated in a natural, more everyday setting
- the researcher goes to the participants usual environment rather than, in a lab experiment researchers going to a lab
4
Q
explain what a natural experiment entails.
A
- the researcher measures the effect the IV has on the DV
- The researcher has no control over the IV and therefore doesn’t change it
- e.g. before a natural disaster
- IV and DV are naturally occurring.
5
Q
explain what a quasi experiment entails.
A
- the IV is based on an already existing difference between people (e.g. age/gender)
- no one has manipulated this variable, it simply exists unlike a natural experiment
- the independent variable cannot be changed
- the DV may be naturally occurring.
