Sampling AO3 Flashcards
1
Q
evaluate random sampling
A
- potentially unbiased
- enhanced internal validity because confounding/extraneous variables are divided within the group
- difficult and time consuming
- may end up with it being unrepresentative
2
Q
evaluate systematic sampling
A
- is objective
- researcher has no influence as to who is chosen
- time consuming
- participants may refuse to take part in the end, resulting in a volunteer sample
3
Q
evaluate opportunity sample
A
- convenient
- much less costly
- suffer from 2 forms of bias; the sample is unrepresentative of the target population as it’s drawn from a very specific behaviour. The researcher also has complete control over the selection of participants and therefore may avoid people they don’t like the look of (researcher bias).
4
Q
evaluate volunteer samples
A
- easy
- requires minimal input
- less time consuming
- volunteers may be more engaged
- volunteer bias- may attract a certain kind of profile who is curious and wants to please the researcher which may affect how research can be generalised
