A

patient looks like they have diabetes
follows an autosomal dominant pattern of inheritence
mild in nature
little evidence of worsening glucose over time

a mutation in the glucokinase gene, effectively the glucose sensor

the blood glucose level is ‘reset’ at a higher level which is between 6-8mmol/l and usually managed by diet and complications are rare except in pregnancy.

strong family history of diabetes
can be misdiagnosed of type 1 but patients will be autoantibody negative at diagnosis
